A Beginner’s Guide to Getting Your Foot in the Door and Building a Career in the Studio

Want to work in a professional recording studio but have no idea how to get started?

So, You Want to Work in a Recording Studio? is a practical, beginner-friendly guide to getting your foot in the door—and becoming the kind of intern or assistant a studio actually wants to keep around.

Written by Donny Baker, a longtime recording studio owner who also started out as an intern, this book gives you advice from both sides of the studio door.

You'll learn how to research the right studios, approach owners and managers, create a strong first impression, follow up without becoming annoying, prepare for the interview, survive your first days in the studio, understand studio etiquette, make yourself valuable, earn more responsibility, and begin moving from intern to assistant to engineer.

You'll also get practical tools you can actually use, including a Studio Research Worksheet, application and interview checklists, sample introduction and follow-up emails, studio vocabulary, first-day checklist, studio etiquette checklist, and a 30-day action plan to help you get moving.

This isn't a technical recording textbook, and it isn't filled with vague “follow your dreams” advice.

It's a straightforward guide to understanding how professional studios work, what studio owners are looking for, and how to turn your first opportunity into real-world experience.

If you're serious about working in a recording studio, start here.

GET IN. STAND OUT. BUILD YOUR CAREER.

Hey there—welcome in!
